The powertrain is the very reason for the existence of an automobile. The powertrain may be a traditional internal combustion engine that makes use of an engine control unit (ECU), transmission control unit (TCU), and powertrain control module (PCM). In a fully electric or even a hybrid vehicle the powertrain would consist of motor driver, battery chargers, rectifiers, and kinetic energy recovery systems.
