Term:

Self-Healing

Definition:

The process of self-healing varies by dielectric type.

In general, self-healing occurs when imperfections, flaws, or faults are repaired within the capacitor during normal operation. Once self-healing occurs, the capacitor becomes more robust.

Commonly aluminum, film and polymer capacitors exhibit self-healing capabilities.
